Mom's Food Philosophy

Eat a little bit of everything, but not too much of anything...

Today I overheard two grown women, one the mother and one the daughter, having a conversation in Trader Joe's while shopping the produce section:
Daughter:  The kids and I are eating salads for dinner every night.
Mother:  That's good, but what are you eating with the salads?  You're not eating bread, are you?
Daughter:  NO!  Of course not.
I do not believe carbohydrates are bad.
I do not believe fat is bad.  Nope, not even saturated fat.

I do not even believe sugar or salt are bad.

The only things I believe to be bad for us to ingest are things that are not truly food.  In other words, processed foods.  If it can't be made with ingredients that can be found in a well-stocked kitchen, you probably shouldn't be eating it.  As long as it grew out of the ground, or ate things that grew out of the ground when it was alive, I don't think it's bad for us.

If you want bread, by all means, eat bread!

The key is not to overdo it.  Find a balance in the kitchen.  Don't over-indulge.  Make delicious food with high-quality ingredients so you're satisfied with less.  Have some bread with your meal, and try not to feel guilty about it.

Eating is essential for our survival and we have to do it every day.  It should be enjoyable and guilt-free!
